'Danball Senki: Jin Kaidou Gaiden (ダンボール戦機 海道ジン外伝 Danbooru Senki Kaidou Jin Gaiden ) is a spin-off manga series created by HIRO, the author of the Shaman King series. It features 3 stories in the life of Jin Kaidou, which discusses his LBX battles outside of the main anime.
Plot[]
Chapter 1[]
At the start of the chapter, we are introduced to a girl, Shijimi, her cat, Muji, and her parents, who are both employees of Kamiya Heavy Industries. They are on a day trip to Kamiya Heavy Industries' Testing Grounds where new LBXs are being shown off to the general public. In a back room, Jin Kaidou is seen putting the finishing touches on his newest LBX, Emperor M2, commenting that its CPU has been pushed to its utmost limits and new weapon, the Emperor Launcher, will be more than enough for the upcoming Artemis tournament. Curious about the racket outside, Jin's Butler informs him that a preview exhibition for the employees of Kamiya Heavy Industries is about to commence and will serve as the stage for Emperor M2's debut.
Jin is pitted against Kamiya Heavy Industries' elite LBX unit, the Deqoo 5. Each member of the unit utilizes a customised version of the Deqoo, each with its own special capabilities; they are confident that they can serve as a challenge to Jin's ability. As the battle begins, the Deqoo 5 each begin firing at Jin, but Emperor M2's superior performance allows him to close the distance and, much like how Amuro used Gaia as a stepping stone in Mobile Suit Gundam, deal a crushing blow to the Deqoo Custom (Light Equipment Model) by stepping on it and crushing its Core Box with the Emperor Launcher. The Deqoo Custom (Surveillance Model) and Deqoo Modification dart backwards to get into a better firing position, but Jin fires the Emperor Launcher's rockets and destroys them both. He smashes the Deqoo Ace from the back and brutalizes the last Deqoo, which happens to be an unmodified unit, with a flamboyant swing of the Emperor launcher as it attempts to jump him from the rear. In standard Jin fashion, he checks his battle time, 4.8 seconds, and proceeds to critique their lack of customisation. The Deqoo 5 collapse in shock as their beloved Deqoos are defeated, and Shijimi watches with a look of pure joy on her face at seeing Emperor M2 in action.
Emperor M2's sheen catches Muji's eye and it runs off and climbs up Jin's back to score it as a prize. Shijimi rushes to grab her cat and apologizes for its actions, while also complimenting Jin for his battling skill, mentioning that she too would like to own her own LBX. Slightly peeved, Jin gives her the cold shoulder and mentions that 'LBX isn't for the enjoyment of brats'. Shijimi stares concernedly at Jin, lamenting the lonely look in his eyes as he strolls away into the crowd.
In the backrooms of the Kamiya Heavy Industries Testing Grounds, Jin reflects on his unintentional harshness towards Shijimi and her family. Inevitably, his thoughts turn back to the day he was thrust into his current Pro-LBX Battler lifestyle when Tokyo Bridge collapsed. He questions his position as the only member of his family that survived the incident, but is interrupted by his Butler, who announces that Kamiya Heavy Industries' new unmanned LBX, Troy, is rampaging for unknown reasons. He pleads for Jin to intervene as it is destroying the Testing Grounds and that the Deqoo 5 are unable to hold it off to allow civilians to escape. Jin selfishly declines, claiming that the whole incident is Kamiya Heavy Industies' fault and that Artemis is more deserving of his attention.
Elsewhere, Troy has identified Shijimi as a target and has taken aim at her with the intent to fire, when, all of a sudden, Emperor M2 leaps out andshields her from Troy's attacks with a Deqoo.
